About Us

The Institut Kajian Dasar (IKD) – Institute for Policy Research exists as a platform for intellectual discourse, research and advocacy aimed at shaping public policy and fostering leadership in Malaysia. As a think tank established to champion new ideas, IKD is committed to addressing contemporary issues of socioeconomic development, leadership and nation-building through evidence-based research and impactful engagement.

IKD was founded by YB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim in 1985 and Dato’ Kamaruddin Jaffar and over the years, IKD has dedicated itself towards producing new ideas that will be a basis to formulate various policies in culture, education, economy and society. This is achieved through a series of intellectual discourses, public forums, civil society engagements as well as regional and international conferences, promoting interaction between Southeast Asian countries and beyond.

IKD has also focused on various forms of leadership training, which includes “Sekolah Politik” / School for Politicians which has successfully produced generations of social and political activists, many of whom have since been elected Members of Parliament and representatives of State Legislative Assemblies, as well as members of the Federal Government and the Executive Committee Members of several State Governments.

As IKD continues to transform and adapt to address contemporary issues of socioeconomic development, leadership and nation-building, it remains steadfast in its commitment to values of justice, democracy and sustainable development for an equitable society.
